The Benefit of Having a Hydroponics Greenhouse Over Indoor Hydroponics Gardening

For years, I have heard about hydroponics gardening, but I always had the question on how the vegetables can be grown in the indoors without the requirement of soil and water? How can the nutrients be enough for the growth of the plants? Hydroponics seems a combination of Chemical solutions with the plants.

These factors had made more surprised & created a curiosity to learn more about this wonder technique of growing fruits or vegetables with the soil. The major advantage of hydroponics method is yielding increased crop gain, than that of the conventional farming.

For example,

Yield of Tomatoes grown in ground is only five to ten tonnes. In greenhouse, the harvest is 60 to 300 tons! Yield of Cucumber, the figures are 7000 pounds whereas in greenhouse it is 28,000 pounds Yield of lettuce is 9000 pounds in ground & 21,000 pounds in a hydroponic greenhouse.

If you have a hydroponic garden, then you can plan or read about the purchase or construction of a hydroponics greenhouse. Many people start with a kind of hydroponics with a small setup at home or in their spare basement room. But it is much easier to manage all the prerequisites for a thriving garden, if you are having a ready made hydroponic greenhouse. It is much easier to manage the requirements for lighting, ventilation and temperature in that.

Hydroponic garden courtyard Vs Hydroponic greenhouse

The growth of plants in your hydroponic gardens courtyard may not seem ideal like that in the use of Hydroponic greenhouse. A hydroponics greenhouse offers better lighting and irrigation on the configuration of the system. Not too many people will support the green house concept if they are used to the hydroponic gardens system.

You need plenty of space for the installation of irrigation systems and lighting systems that are necessary for the hydroponic gardens. Where is space available in this fast paced world cramped with houses & skyscrapers? But, if you have a hydroponic greenhouse, then you can position these systems much easier & in a smaller space too. Lighting & other arrangements come with the greenhouse, so one need not worry on those factors.

Most plants thriving under greenhouse hydroponics conditions are carefully examined. Gravel is usually seen as a means to support the root user, and a balanced mix of all nutrients regularly flow cultures in liquid form. This method is called a “subculture of irrigation.”

In a large perfect hydroponic greenhouse, once the plants were planted almost the entire work is supported by automation. Sensors in the gravel decide when the plants need more solution, based on that they control the pumps accordingly.

The biggest advantage of using greenhouse hydroponics for your garden is about light. To be successful, the plants grown in hydroponics need lots of light. But remember that too much light allows with algae to thrive, and that do not want.

In a hydroponics greenhouse, sunlight is filtered and dispersed as a matter of time. You can also specify or control the number and angle of the light through the use of colors and shutters. Another advantage is that you require less energy because you do not continue to grow light all the time.

You will also find that the procedures for the supply of nutrients to the plants are easier to install and maintain if one has a hydroponics greenhouse. Of course, this is very important for the health of the plants in hydro culture.

If the plants do not grow in the soil, the pH is rather different. You will see the large fluctuations in the acidity and alkalinity, as it is water based. A greenhouse hydroponics setup is simple; the implementation of an automatic pH control keeps checking the figures.

And you need not worry about how your plants will stay warm in winter. A good greenhouse has an acceptable temperature, even in the cold days without heat. This is especially advantageous if you live in a region with lower temperature, but lot of sunshine. Fans and also vents may also be installed to help regulate the temperature in your greenhouse. Remember, control of temperature for the plants in hydroponics gardening is important.

You can build your own greenhouse hydroponics, or buy ready. Yes! You can get it in different sizes and styles. There are lots of models that also take into account the expansion of the garden in the future. Maybe it’s time that you have a hydroponics greenhouse & have those favorite fruits or vegetable garden.

Do you want to go green no matter where live? Did you know that there are 7 different types of hydroponic systems? Gila Karash is using them for many years. Want to build your own hydroponic greenhouse? How about using ready to use kits? Find out how easy it to do it yourself. Visit Gila’s site and read about it. Hydroponics Kits Simplify the Process of Hydroponic Gardening

There are many advantages to hydroponics, the popular soilless gardening system. It is a way to practice indoor gardening when gardening outdoors is not an options, such as in remote locales like Antarctica, outer space, or even in an apartment building high above your city. Because hydroponics uses no soil, plants are not bothered by diseases that incubate in the soil, and neither are they crowded out by weeds. Because the environment is strictly controlled in order to produce the best results with the plants being grown, hydroponics gardening usually uses less water, energy and fewer pesticides while requiring less space than conventional outdoor gardening. Hydroponic kits take all the guesswork out of growing indoors, because all of the major components are included.

What are some of the different hydroponic kits available?

1. Deep water culture. kits

One method of hydroponics is deep water culture. The crown of the plant is suspended over the nutrient solution by a net. The net is placed in a hole in the center of a plastic lid, which fits on top of a plastic bucket. The roots remain in the solution to soak up nutrients, which is the plant’s food. In order for plants to thrive with this gardening method, the solution must be aerated in some manner, because the movement of the liquid helps to bring the nutrient to the plant roots, allowing them to feed and oxygenates the liquid as well.

You can have one bucket or several buckets linked together in deep water culture gardening. When several buckets are used, the water is typically recirculated through all of them using spray nozzles, which helps to aerate the liquid.

2. Aeroponic gardening kits

Aeroponics is a subset of hydroponics where plants’ roots, rather than being suspended in the liquid nutrient, are instead suspended in air. The roots are regularly misted with nutrient, as an alternative to floating in solution typically found in hydroponics systems. Plants grow very quickly using this type of growing system.

3. Ebb and Flow kits

This method of hydroponics was inspired by large farms that use irrigation as a means for watering outdoor crops. With ebb and flow kits, there is a pan of nutrient solution and above this pan is a tray that holds plants that are planted into some type of growing medium, such as rockwool or coir. A pump is called into play to fill the tray holding the plants with nutrient solution, and after it fills the solution drains back down into the pan. Because of the movement of the solution into and out of the tray, ebb and flow provides its own means of aeration of the nutrient solution.

Susan Slobac shares her experience with indoor gardening and hydroponics. As a certified master gardener, Susan has a vast amount of experience using a variety of the most popular hydroponic kits.

Hydroponic Gardens “Grow” Crazy With General Hydroponics Nutrients

General Hydroponics Inc. is one of the more venerable players in the field, having been around since the 1970s. General Hydroponics nutrients have the distinction of being the first such fertilizers to be used off-planet; General Hydroponics products have been used by NASA for the hydroponic gardens aboard the International Space Station.

Unlike FoxFarm, which caters primarily to traditional outdoor gardeners, General Hydroponics specializes in and markets to hydroponic gardeners, and the company’s products are engineered specifically for hydroponic applications. Located just north of San Francisco in one of the premier agricultural regions of California, General Hydroponics maintains a 45,000 square foot facility where new systems and fertilizers are constantly being tested and improved. In addition, this company offers a full line of equipment and other accessories for the hydroponic gardener, including controllers, pumps and replacement parts for various elements of the hydroponic system. The company website itself is an excellent resource for anyone interested in this type of production, including an online “nutrient calculator” to assist in determining the needs of specific plants.

Consumer response to General Hydroponics nutrients has been positive. One of the features of General Hydroponics products is that unlike many such nutrients, they are simple and easy to use. Whereas many such products are two and three-part solutions that require careful mixing, this company’s products are one-part nutrients, making the overall process much less complicated in general. Hydroponic gardeners who have reviewed General Hydroponic’s products note that they are extremely concentrated; at least one reviewer described the product as “heavy” and “like chocolate tar” – you won’t need to use much, but you will require a blender or a good solid whisk in order to emulsify General Hydroponics nutrients properly.

In addition to their semi-liquid products, General Hydroponics manufactures a powdered product known as Kool Bloom. This product is engineered to promote flowering in such plants, particularly tomatoes, by increasing the amount of phosphorus and potassium that is available. Again, consumers report amazing results, but like many General Hydroponics nutrients, a little goes a very long way; overuse of this substance can result in “bloom burn.” Nonetheless, these are excellent products in general; hydroponic farmers will find little to complain about when it comes to products made by General Hydroponics, provided they are used judiciously and according to instructions.

About the Author : From years of indoor and hydroponic gardening, Susan Slobac has developed an in-depth knowledge of gardening nutrients such as general hydroponics and writes frequently on the subject

Hydroponics Gardening With LED Grow Lights

It’s a well known fact that hydroponics gardening requires grow lights. Choosing a powerful grow lamp to light the plants properly in order for photosynthesis to occur and for the plants to grow and thrive is the key to success. Lighting is crucial to every kind of indoor gardening situation, because without adequate light, the plants will be stunted and not grow to their full potential. LED grow lights can be used to good effect in an indoor plant growing situation.

LED refers to light-emitting diode. A diode has two terminals, and it allows current to flow in one direction and not in another. It is a simple semiconductor.

Photons are units of light. Atoms contain photons, and it is the photons that produce light. They produce light when electrons move around and change positions. Electrical current, in an LED lamp, flows across the diode, and when this happens, it causes a change in the movement of the electrons. The positively-charged electrons will move in the opposite direction from the negatively-charged electrons. A semiconductor is made more conductive to electrical flow when free electrons are added to the conductor material, creating negatively charged areas, or when they are taken away, leaving gaps in the chain, and positively charged areas. Electrical current flows over these areas, and it causes the electrons to move. The side effect of all this movement is the production of light.

The color of the light emitted by these types of grow lamps is based on the size of the gap in the electron chain. The gap size affects the frequency of the photon, and this is why it has an impact on the color of the light produced. Low-frequency light produced by an LED light is used to light remote controls for one of many common examples, because it it infrared light.

If you are growing plants indoors, then the color of the light that your grow light emits is quite vital to your plants’ health. Young plants at the seedling stage require blue light in order to grow properly. Mature plants, such as a flowering or fruiting plants, require red and orange light in order to get the plants to produce the flowers and fruit that you want. All of this is dependent on the light that you use with your plants. LED lamps come in a wide variety of colors, so it is easy to get the exact grow lamps you need in order to get the results you want from your indoor plants.

The advantage to using LED lights is that they do not get hot as they are in operation, and they also do not have a filament, which you find in incandescent light bulbs, so they often have a longer productive life because of this.

Susan Slobac uses LED lights for hydroponics gardening. She has had great success with this type of grow lamp and in this article she shares her experience using the led grow light for indoor gardening.

    5 Tips for Hydroponics Gardening

Hydroponic gardening can be an excellent way to grow a large amount of fruits and vegetables in a limited area. However, it’s much more than just growing plants in a water-nutrient system without soil. There are many variables, all of which depend on the space available, your budget and how much time is available to spend on maintenance. There then are some tips that will help to make your hydroponic experience pleasant and productive.

Number 1: Get Your Plants Off to a Good Start

When seeds first sprout, they are said to be germinating. In hydroponic gardening, this happens within a growing medium, which can be any number of things. The best choices are composted bark, expanded clay, gravel, peat moss or sand. Rockwool, oasis and perlite are less desirable; vermiculite should be avoided at all costs, as it is often contaminated with asbestos fibers that can have grave consequences for one’s respiratory health.

Keep in mind that every type of plant has its own specific needs when it comes to temperature and light. You’ll need to check the seed specification in order to determine the plant’s unique germination requirements.

Number 2: The Right Grow Light

Grow lights are required to meet a plants growth needs at various stages. A successful grow system relies on the proper grow lights. LED Grow Lights are one example of this key lighting component. As mentioned above, different plants have different light requirements – and a single plant has different light needs at different stages. In general, a plant that is in the growth stage needs more red spectrum light, whereas a plant that is flowering or fruiting uses more of the blue spectrum. Metal halide (MH) lights are good for the former, while High Pressure Sodium (HPS) lights work better during the latter stage. Some of the newer LED grow lights can actually be adjusted for different kinds of plants and various stages, however these are more expensive than standard types of light.

    Number 3: Proper Nutrition

All plants require some sixteen different mineral nutrients in order to reach their full potential. These fall into the category of either micronutrients or micronutrients.

Important macronutrients include nitrogen (N), which aids in the growth of new leaves; phosphorus (P), needed for root growth and bloom; potassium (K) for disease resistance; calcium (Ca), which promotes the growth of new roots and shoots; and magnesium (Mg), the ions of which are an important component of chlorophyll, the substance that aids in photosynthesis. Minerals such as boron (B), copper (cu), cobalt (Co), iron (Fe) and zinc (Zn) are micronutrients that are necessary in trace amounts.

Number 4: Preventing Disease and Warding Off Pests

Just as with traditional gardening, hydroponics means battling unwanted insects and plant diseases. The best ways to avoid these problems consist of maintaining a clean growing environment, selecting hearty, disease-resistant plants, proper ventilation and temperature control, and constant monitoring for problems. The latter is especially important; most problems are easily cured if caught in their initial stages.

    Number 5: Keeping it Pruned

Discolored, insect-eaten or unhealthy leaves and diseased roots should be removed with a pair of sharp scissors. Judicious pruning will also help your plants to grow fuller and allow it to concentrate its energy on more productive shoots.

Susan Slobac is experienced in hydroponics gardening. She has used a variety of grow systems including Deep Water Culture. In her experience the type of grow lights used have the largest impact. She recommends LED Grow Lights, HPS grow lights and MH grow lights for the best results.

Hydroponics Equipment You Need To Have For Success

Have you considered growing plants hydroponically? To grow plants hydroponically with success one needs hydroponics equipment that produces results. There are many different types of hydroponics equipment available on the market today.

First of all, there are a few different ways of growing hydroponically. After selecting the preferred method the next step is choosing your hydroponics equipment for your grow. One of the first pieces of hydroponics equipment you must choose is your grow lighting for your plants. The most common types of lights currently used for hydroponics growing today are HID lights, L.E.D. lighting, and CFLs(Compact fluorescent lamps).

Next, to grow hydroponics you will need to figure out how to feed your plants. There are many different methods of feeding plants hydroponically. Some of the more common types are: ebb and flow, aeroponics, bubbleponics, and drip feeding. Depending on which method is selected the gardener will then need the right hydroponics equipment that matches the grow method.

Once the hydroponic gardener has figured out exactly what lighting and feeding system will be used, they can then work out exactly how much ventilation is needed for a healthy environment. The proper ventilation in the grow area is vitally important for several different reasons such as temperature, disease, humidity, odor control, and fresh air exchange. When selecting hydroponics equipment do not leave out this critical step.

Plants need nutrients to survive and thrive when indoors. When growing hydroponically it is a necessary step to get the proper plant food for your particular plant. Simply feeing your plant water is not going to be enough.

Therefore, the proper hydroponics equipment can help make all the difference. So, make sure to do the proper research to find out exactly which equipment you need to grow hydroponically.

    Choosing a hydroponics grow box

How to purchase a hydroponics grow box

Purchasing your first hydroponics grow box can be a big decision. We have written this article to make it easier for you to purchase a hydroponics grow box that is going to be right for you. There are many things to consider before you buy your first grow box. Usually the grow box you want is best based on as much money you are comfortable spending on a grow box. Once you have a number in your mind, be prepared to spend at least this or maybe a little bit more to get a grow box that’s going to last for many years. Try to think about expandability in mind. Get the best grow box you can afford at the time as it will serve you well into the future. Based on the price you have some idea as far as the features that you are looking for, or rather to say can afford.

Usually the more expensive the grow box is, the more plants you can grow, the more room you have to use as the plants grow fast, the more powerful the lighting system will be, and overall more technologies usually involved in the manufacture of that particular hydroponics grow. The cheaper or less-expensive grow box systems are often smaller than their larger counterparts and even use less light. For instance you may have an air cooled reflector on your higher end grow boxes versus the non-air cooled reflector on your lower end entry level grow boxes.

You simply get what you pay for. Usually the less-expensive grow boxes are minimal in terms of equipment included and will give you everything you need to grow and not much more. These boxes will usually start with a 400 watt high pressure sodium light, have the simple DWC hydroponic system, an air pump and a simple carbon filter to get you started. A more expensive grow box will usually have a higher wattage light closer to 600 watt high pressure sodium or metal halide lights, and some of the higher-end grow boxes will even include fluorescent lights on the side areas, these lights help to start seedlings and clones. Usually the midrange and high-end grow boxes will have a feature that is vertically mounted T5 fluorescent lights which some grow boxes will not have. The T5 lights make it a lot easier to start your seedlings and clones. Remember you need blue light during the vegetating stage and red light during the flowering stage. Personally I would not recommend purchasing any grow box that does not have vertically mounted T5 fluorescent lights. You really need these to grow small plant in the beginning stages, and there are no exceptions to not having these fluorescent lights on the sides of your grow box.

Often in the more expensive and middle to the road to high end hydroponics grow box systems will usually a more robust carbon scrubber. Usually you’ll get a 265 CFM squirrel cage blower fan or a high-powered centrifugal fan to keep your hydroponics grow box cool. All of this air is going to be passed to a carbon scrubber to get rid of the odor. This is standard equipment on most midrange and high-end grow boxes. However somebody entry-level starter grow box systems will simply contain an axial fan with a simple carbon filter, which still works good to regulate the heat and also to get rid of the odor, but simply will not work as well as one of its larger counterparts with a much larger fan and a much more powerful carbon scrubber. Be sure to purchase a grow box with as many fans as possible. A lot of manufacturers out there will try to cheat you by offering minimal fans. Some high-end grow boxes are known to have as much as nine fans keeping cool. You’re looking to purchase from a reputable manufacturer that spends more on fans to keep your system cool. Running a hot hydroponics grow box will kill the results over the long run your plants, you will never grow properly in a hotbox. Get a grow box with a sufficient number of fans, which are as powerful as you can get. Look for grow boxes that have as many powerful fans as possible. Some of the higher end machines will have between four and 10 fans, which is actually fantastic. Try to get a grow box with at least three fans if possible. The more the better. Avoid grow box manufacturers that have a history of running hot.

Some other differences you might see between a low-end starter hydroponics grow box and a mid-range hydroponics grow box is going to be in the material that it is made out of. Often the beginner level hydroponics grow box systems will be made out of plastic, or a combination of plastic and metal. The higher-end grow boxes on the other hand will often be made of metal and contain lockable doors and powder coated paint. On the entry-level systems locks are something that could be added, but on the midrange and high-end hydroponics grow boxes locks and a dual set of keys is always included.

The metal units tend to be more durable, and stand up well to the test of time. But regardless of whether your grow boxes of metal or plastic, the plants growing inside will grow exceptionally well. When purchasing a grow box try to buy the best one you can. Take a look at the light wattages usually the higher the better. Take a look of it’s an air cooled reflector, often you’ll want one of these to keep temperatures down. Take a look at the number of fans on the system that will be a good indicator of how cool a grow box unit runs. Try to always buy a hydroponics grow box from a reputable vendor.

Some other things to look for when purchasing a hydroponics grow box is the manufacturer itself. Take a look at the options they offer. Some high-end manufacturers will include stuff like air conditioning, green LED lights, ultrasonic foggers, and even total automation systems to keep the units running automatically. This is a sign that the manufacturer has their act together and is building the best possible grow boxes. These features make it so easy to use it becomes only child’s play. Some manufacturers will try to rip you off by offering you a minimal amount of features and a minimal amount of upgrades. Look at the manufacturers that are willing to work with you to build a system that will work best for your needs. The more you can customize your grow box for your specific needs the better.

One last thing to mention is before purchasing any new hydroponics equipment we highly recommend you viewing as many video tutorials as possible and reading as many articles as you possibly can on purchasing a new hydroponics grow box before you jump right in and make that the decision. It should be a machine that’s going to last you for many years and you want to choose wisely when purchasing your first hydroponics grow. When purchasing a grow box really break it down into its individual parts and see which ones offer the most value for the money. A lot of manufacturers of grow boxes that look very similar to the casual viewer, you really want to look beyond it at the actual features that you’re getting such as the pumps, the velocity of the fans, the amount of lights offered in the grow box system. Also pay close attention to the wiring in the overall professionalism of the units built it. You are not looking for something that looks like it’s been built in a shed or garage. You should purchase a midrange to high-end, professionally manufactured grow box for best results.

Some other things to look for in a reputable manufacturer of hydroponics grow boxes is how they ship their products. Many on in unreputable manufacturers will simply ship your hydroponics grow box with just bubble wrapping or light cardboard. This does not protect your unit during shipping. What you really need is to have a wood crate built around your grow box unit to ensure its safety during shipping. The freight companies are known to be very rough with freight and your grow box can get damaged easily. Try to find the manufacturers that will ship out the units in wood crates to ensure that your unit will be delivered in the same shape as it was originally built.

Just educate yourself properly before purchasing a grow box and watch as many hydroponic videos as you can. Good manufacturers will always have plenty of videos on their website so you really know the product you are getting.
