Basic Indoor hydroponics Gardening Guide – Hydroponic Nutrient Solutions

Improper use of fertilizers is the common cause of many plant problems. Inadequate amounts cause weak and under nourished plants while an amount above desired quantities may burn and even kill the plant. Good judgment and decisions are required when a plant grows. Below are guidelines for applying nutrient solutions.

Hydroponic nutrient solutions are normally sold in concentrated forms. They are then added to the water supply with a specific ratio. Ideally, 150-600 parts per million consists a normal concentration of hydroponic solution. Normally sold in two or three parts because direct combination is not possible. Remember to mix nutrients into water first before combining, never combine two nutrients together.

 How Much Hydroponic Nutrient Solution?

There are specific proportions for each plant type and phase of its growth. Advances in nutrient solutions have greatly improved the precision of concentration based on a plants growth stage. Hydroponic nutrient solutions are usually sold in “grow” or “growth” formulas for the vegetative phases and “bloom” or “flower” for the flowering phase of the growth cycle. Remember to switch to the bloom formula during the bloom stager to increase yields exponentially and max out your plants capacity.

In poor growing conditions weak nutrients are recommended. Low lighting, overheated gardens, crowding and root bound plants. Weak nutrients are also ideal for newly rooted cuttings and for transporting plants or when they are in the transition of growth cycles.

Normal, healthy plants can be used with regular strength solutions in ideal growing conditions. Increasing nutrient solutions could be utilized to enhance efficiency of your gardens. An ideal system such as high quality lights, proper aeration and ventilation when present is the only instance wherein you could increase the level of nutrient solutions to improve plant growth. Gradually increasing the nutrient solution is advised as not to burn the plant roots.

Various additives are also available for optimum plant growth. Maintain good grow logs or records of types of additives used, when applied and results. This enables you to measure its effectiveness in the future. If there are any negative effects with experimentation, flush or rinse your hydroponic system immediately.

How to measure Hydroponic Nutrient Solutions

Electronic conductivity of dissolved minerals in the water is the usual basis for determining nutrient solution. Parts per million (ppm) is the unit of measure. But this is just a general way of measuring conductivity in the solution and not the actual strength of individual minerals. This is the main reason why hydroponic nutrient solutions are sold as a mix of 3 parts. Once the desired mix is achieved it is very convenient to change the concentration to achieve proper conductivity.

Overuse of Hydroponic Fertilizers

Flushing out your growing medium is the first intervention once any signs of over fertilization are observed this is to prevent further damage to the plant. Clean water is used for flushing until signs of nutrient deficiency are observed in the plant. Normal feeding and schedule is then resumed. Some hydroponic systems require a top down flushing to completely clean out the plant.

2 weeks before your expected date of harvest, flushing is recommended for the plant. It is done to leave your harvest free from the hydroponic nutrients solution taste.

The Beauty of an Indoor Garden Using Hydroponics

In the last couple of years, the science of hydroponics gained a lot of popularity, due to its many known advantages. The technology of cultivating plants without a soil attracted a lot of growers, interested in making their very own indoor garden and being prepared to learn all about this subject.

Hydroponically grown plants require a lot of attention and various supplies in order to flourish. The Internet can educate people on diverse subjects and the one concerning hydroponics is being widely presented online. One can find out about the varied types of mediums, available nutrient systems and of course how to use hydroponics to grow plants.

The concept of hydroponics was formulated by specialists around 1800 but only recently is has seen great improvements. Even up to this day, advances are still being made, several mediums for cultivation being now in research. Still, there are a couple of popular mediums to grow hydroponics and they include: sponge medium, growing cubes (coconut/peat – chemical compounds) and rockwool, a kind of articifical fiber. Each one of them have their own advantages and recommended uses.

The nutrient solution is another important factor to take into consideration for anyone interested to grow hydroponics. There are mixtures that can be bought from various sources and also one can learn how to prepare it at home. Still, as knowing how to properly mix them requires some time, it is for the best to buy them already mixed, at least at first.

Starting and nurturing an indoor gardenn can be quite a challenging task. The Internet can really help in that matter, helping interested growers to take informed decisions when it comes to how to grow hydroponics. Apart from the nutrient solution that must contain a lot of anions and cations, one has to pay attention to the air and light necessity of the plants.

The technology of water culture is used worldwide. People learn the proper way to grow hydroponics with the help of the online information brought by specialized resources. They are also to find the suitable supplies they need for their indoor garden, starting with the nutritive solutions, water pump and LED growing lights, them being the ones providing the right spectrum lightning environment for plant growing.

Today, hydroponics are not only used for the development of a personal indoor garden but also in biology research. Scientists are able to study the development of various plants in diverse mediums and see the differences between the ones that are grown in natural soil.

Some of the advantages of hydroponics are strongly related to the fact that no soil is necessary. Due to this important point, all diseases and pests that may attack crops are not longer a problem. The root growth process can be much simpler observed and managed, not to mention that the issue of water supply can be easily dealt with. The grower does not have to worry about giving the wrong quantity of water.

The profits for an indoor gardening system can be substantial if one learns all the secrets of the technology. Visiting specialized websites, growers find the supplies they need and gain knowledge on how to use them. More and more people have decided to implement this technology, seeing clearly its long-term effects and many other rewards.

Plants not only grow in a shorter period of time but also without less complications. Under the LED grow lights and with the right nutrients, they are able to develop and provide fresh, healhty food sources. All one needs to start is a hydroponic kit with the nutritive solution, growing mediums and other elements such as water pump and lights. Remember that a temperature control must be done constantly, only to make sure that the plants are doing ok in the settled environment.

    Pest Control for Indoor Gardens

When you practice indoor gardening, one of the issues that can diminish the fun is the number and ferocity of insect pests that can wreak havoc with your plants. There are, however, several indoor gardening supplies that can be used to control various pests from damaging your indoor crops, and will thus increase your plants’ yields. Indoor gardening supplies can include such pest control products as powder sulfur and spider mite control, to name a few.

    Powder sulfur

Powder sulfur is one of the indoor gardening supplies that will best control thrips. Thrips will puncture the cells of your plants and suck out the contents of the cells, resulting in cosmetic damage to crops. Sulfur can be used in a vaporizer unit, which sends out sulfur vapors into your indoor gardening area. Sulfur will change the pH level on the plant’s leaves and stems, which will cause damage to pest reproduction cycles. Changing the pH level also has the added advantage of reducing the common plant disease of powdery mildew, which can be a problem in damp greenhouse settings.

    Spider Mite Control

Indoor pest control can also include a program for reducing spider mites. Indoor gardening supplies used for spider mite control include beneficial insects.

This form of controlling spider mites can be used as an initial means of implementing integrated pest management, also called IPM. This is a method whereby you initialize your pest management by using the least toxic means of controlling the problem, and move up the chain to more powerful and toxic solutions only if necessary.

Beneficial insects are an organic gardening solution for controlling spider mites. Although they are very tiny insects, when amassed in large groups they can decimate a greenhouse crop very quickly. They, like thrips, suck the contents out of plant cells, leaving a scar on the leaves and stems of the plants. If a plant has too many of these scars, it suffers a reduction in photosynthetic ability, causing it to not be able to take in enough nutrients. This can eventually kill the plant.

There are beneficial insects that will kill spider mites. Although its name is not easy to pronounce, Phytoseiulus persimilis is nevertheless one of the indoor gardener’s best friends when it comes to spider mite control.

When using a beneficial insect as a method of controlling another harmful insect, you will want to release the beneficials as soon as you detect a pest problem, because the sooner they get to work, the sooner they will eliminate the problematic greenhouse insect guest. These are one form of indoor gardening supplies that work best indoors, because they keep their feeding focused in one small area to get rid of the pests efficiently.

Indoor gardening supplies including pest control systems can be found to meet your specific indoor gardening needs, suitable for the particular types of plants you grow.

An expert in indoor gardening, Susan Slobac discusses a variety indoor gardening supplies that can be used for indoor pest control.

The Benefit of Having a Hydroponics Greenhouse Over Indoor Hydroponics Gardening

For years, I have heard about hydroponics gardening, but I always had the question on how the vegetables can be grown in the indoors without the requirement of soil and water? How can the nutrients be enough for the growth of the plants? Hydroponics seems a combination of Chemical solutions with the plants.

These factors had made more surprised & created a curiosity to learn more about this wonder technique of growing fruits or vegetables with the soil. The major advantage of hydroponics method is yielding increased crop gain, than that of the conventional farming.

    For example,

Yield of Tomatoes grown in ground is only five to ten tonnes. In greenhouse, the harvest is 60 to 300 tons! Yield of Cucumber, the figures are 7000 pounds whereas in greenhouse it is 28,000 pounds Yield of lettuce is 9000 pounds in ground & 21,000 pounds in a hydroponic greenhouse.

If you have a hydroponic garden, then you can plan or read about the purchase or construction of a hydroponics greenhouse. Many people start with a kind of hydroponics with a small setup at home or in their spare basement room. But it is much easier to manage all the prerequisites for a thriving garden, if you are having a ready made hydroponic greenhouse. It is much easier to manage the requirements for lighting, ventilation and temperature in that.

Hydroponic garden courtyard Vs Hydroponic greenhouse

The growth of plants in your hydroponic gardens courtyard may not seem ideal like that in the use of Hydroponic greenhouse. A hydroponics greenhouse offers better lighting and irrigation on the configuration of the system. Not too many people will support the green house concept if they are used to the hydroponic gardens system.

You need plenty of space for the installation of irrigation systems and lighting systems that are necessary for the hydroponic gardens. Where is space available in this fast paced world cramped with houses & skyscrapers? But, if you have a hydroponic greenhouse, then you can position these systems much easier & in a smaller space too. Lighting & other arrangements come with the greenhouse, so one need not worry on those factors.

Most plants thriving under greenhouse hydroponics conditions are carefully examined. Gravel is usually seen as a means to support the root user, and a balanced mix of all nutrients regularly flow cultures in liquid form. This method is called a “subculture of irrigation.”

In a large perfect hydroponic greenhouse, once the plants were planted almost the entire work is supported by automation. Sensors in the gravel decide when the plants need more solution, based on that they control the pumps accordingly.

The biggest advantage of using greenhouse hydroponics for your garden is about light. To be successful, the plants grown in hydroponics need lots of light. But remember that too much light allows with algae to thrive, and that do not want.

In a hydroponics greenhouse, sunlight is filtered and dispersed as a matter of time. You can also specify or control the number and angle of the light through the use of colors and shutters. Another advantage is that you require less energy because you do not continue to grow light all the time.

You will also find that the procedures for the supply of nutrients to the plants are easier to install and maintain if one has a hydroponics greenhouse. Of course, this is very important for the health of the plants in hydro culture.

If the plants do not grow in the soil, the pH is rather different. You will see the large fluctuations in the acidity and alkalinity, as it is water based. A greenhouse hydroponics setup is simple; the implementation of an automatic pH control keeps checking the figures.

And you need not worry about how your plants will stay warm in winter. A good greenhouse has an acceptable temperature, even in the cold days without heat. This is especially advantageous if you live in a region with lower temperature, but lot of sunshine. Fans and also vents may also be installed to help regulate the temperature in your greenhouse. Remember, control of temperature for the plants in hydroponics gardening is important.

You can build your own greenhouse hydroponics, or buy ready. Yes! You can get it in different sizes and styles. There are lots of models that also take into account the expansion of the garden in the future. Maybe it’s time that you have a hydroponics greenhouse & have those favorite fruits or vegetable garden.

Hydroponic Grow Lights For the Indoor Plants

We have been familiar with the benefit of Hydroponics that enables us to grow plants with the requirement of soil & water.

All it needs is the required nutrients for the roots.

Here we have another factor that is important for the plant – Sunlight.

For Outdoor Plants, the Sunlight is there but what about the Indoor Hydroponics gardening that is practiced in locations having lesser or no sunlight at all? Do not worry!

The solution is by using artificial light with the help of Hydroponic Grow Lights. Yes! By using hydroponics grow lights, a gardener can

    - Grow any Plant – Any time – Anywhere

Welcome the Sun Indoors, by using Hydroponics Grow Lights that are easily available in the market. Let me share few examples of those grow lights useful the gardener & giving a clear idea.

We, have Light movers, Lylar, reflectors, bulbs, light hangers coming under the category of Hydroponic grow lights.

How to choose the right Hydroponic grow lights?

To choose the right type of Light that is required for the garden, few factors needs to be considered like-

    - In the early seasons of spring, one can use a high pressure sodium bulb. It can also be used on cloudy days.

    - For excellent vegetable growth like lettuce and basil, a very wide spectrum bulb like the Metal Halide bulb should be used. The Halide bulbs emit blue light that is required by plants for photosynthesis leading to growth.

    - For longer life expectancy & efficiency, the sodium bubs are more used instead of the halide bulbs. The Sodium bulbs emit more light & lasts longer with twice the average life of a halide bulb. But to get a more spectral distribution of light, the halide bulbs are the best. So, it depends on what is required at that time of necessity. The sodium lights emit red light that is good for at the flowering or fruit stage of the plant.

    - Then we also have something called fluorescent Grow lights. These are good for violets, orchids & other house plants that do not require much sunlight. Such lights are often used at the time of seedling of the plants.

Often we have seen that the growers or gardeners switch the type of bulbs during the various stages of growth.

Initially Metal halide bulbs are used to keep the plants tight & then they use the Sodium bulbs at the time of fruit growing, budding or flowering stage when the plants will require more light. So, a flip over switch is used.

So, the switching of bulbs depends on 4 factors -

    - Amount of space used for gardening – Amount of light required for that type of plants. – Decision of the growers – Wattage use & the electrical requirements. – The required wattage per square foot of the garden is 25. – For a 2′ x 2′ area, required wattage will be 150-175 – For a 3′ x 3′ area, required wattage will be 250 – For a 4′ x 4′ area, required wattage will be 400 – For a 6.5′ x 6.5′ area, required wattage will be 600 – For an 8′ x 8′ area, required wattage will be 1000

Metal Halide bulbs that are used for 18 hours per day will last 6-8 months. The lamps emit blue or violet light & are available at 2600° Kelvin To 6500° Kelvin Similarly, Sodium bulbs used for 12 hours daily will last 12 – 16 Months. High pressure sodium lamps are available in 2000° Kelvin to 3000° Kelvin.

Let us discuss something more that is related to the hydroponics grow lights Systems here,

    - Switch able Systems – We have discussed this earlier.

A Metal halide bulb & a high pressure sodium bulb will be used here.

By the flip of the switch, the gardener can allow the plants receive light from metal halide or sodium light depending on the various stages of the plant.

    - Conversion Lamps – For all the growing stages of the plant getting a balanced spectral output, the conversion lamps are used.

These are available in Sodium or Metal Halide with limited wattage. During the vegetative growth stage, the metal halide conversion lamps operate on high pressure sodium ballast and during the budding stages, the High pressure sodium lamps operate on metal halide ballasts.

From seeding to maturity of the plants, all type of hydroponics grow lights are available.

Do you want to go green no matter where live? Did you know that there are 7 different types of hydroponic systems? Gila Karash is using them for many years. A UFO LED Grow Light Helps Your Indoor Garden Thrive for Less

Light weight, cost efficiency for many years of use, and bright clean light is what the UFO LED grow light will bring to your indoor gardening setup. The UFO LED utilizes special light emitting diode technology to bring you the ultimate grow light on the market today.

The first benefit you will get when you make the switch to a UFO LED light is the quality of light this small unit can produce. A UFO LED uses the power of LED to produce more light than would be given by a four-hundred watt high high pressure sodium, or HPS, grow light. It does this while using only eighty watts of energy, making it very cost efficient in terms of the lumens of light produced compared to the watts of energy needed to produce the light.

UFO LED grow lights cover nine square feet of space with wonderful light. The light produced is exceptionally well suited to plants, because each one-watt LED used in the UFO LED light is selected as part of the light spectrum that the plant can use for all-important photosynthesis. Your plants, regardless of what stage of growth they are at, will not be able to utilize green light to aid their photosynthesis. Young plants need blue spectrum light for good growth, while mature plants need red and orange spectrum light to promote fruit and flower formation. Green spectrum light is wasted energy for most plants that you end up paying for if a grow light produces light in this spectrum, yet most grow lights typically do, another advantage that comes from using an UFO LED light.

LED grow lights such as this use wide angle, directional bulbs. This is important, because their placement within the UFO LED grow light maximizes the full impact of all the light produced by directing it exactly on your plants. The light output is not diffused out to the side of the unit, to become wasted light. Because they are specifically directed, you will also be able to save money because you will not need to use any reflectors with this type of amazing UFO LED grow light.

Because the UFO LED grow light uses light emitting diodes, it runs much cooler than a traditional HID, HPS, or MH lighting system. These traditional lights needs ballasts, as well as air conditioning and ducting in order to keep the lights from overheating. They also can burn the leaves of plants if placed too closely to the plant foliage. Both of these issues are eliminated with UFO LED grow lights.

In addition to cost effectiveness and production value, the UFO led light does not require any complicated setup, and can be used with a regular outlet. The UFO LED is also long lived, and can run for eighty thousand hours or more. Try a UFO today!

Susan Slobac has tested the ufo led grow light on her indoor gardens. Experiencing higher yields and lower operating costs, Susan discusses this revolutionary LED grow light.

Indoor Gardeners Experience Many Benefits From the Supernova LED Grow Light

Indoor gardeners are agog with the introduction of the latest LED grow light to hit the market–the Supernova LED. This family of LED grow lights offers improved light output for a fraction of the cost of using HID or other ordinary types of grow lights. Gardeners are impressed with its light coverage, increased light spectrum control, and cool running temperatures, among a wealth of improvements it brings to ordinary grow lamps.

The Supernova grow light offers an increased light coverage when compared with other LED grow lights. While other good LED grow lights offer a three foot by three foot area with good light coverage, the Supernova LED adds an additional two feet to that, for a total of five square feet of coverage area. These grow lights are designed to be space saving yet very powerful. The Supernova LED achieves this large coverage through the clever use of seven individual circuit boards. This allows the light to flow out of the unit at different angles, and this unique design provides for its improved light coverage that your plants will appreciate.

When you purchase an ordinary grow lamp, it comes with a particular color temperature and color tone built in. This is also the case with the Supernova LED grow light, but with the major benefit of allowing you the flexibility to change the color spectrum as you wish. This is accomplished through independently adjustable spectrum control. In addition to this flexibility, the Supernova LED also comes in an enhanced spectrum version, providing you with six more custom LED light spectrums at your fingertips. While young plants require the blue light spectrum for growth, mature plants need red and orange light in order to produce fruits and flowers, so if you can adjust your light to meet their specific needs, they will experience much better growth rates. This unique light allows you to fine tune your light to exactly what your plants require, unlike any other grow light available.

Ordinary grow lights have a side effect, after being on for a length of time, of increasing heat temperature, so much so that extra equipment must be used so that the lighting equipment does not overheat and malfunction. LED grow lights such as the Supernova LED avoid this issue because they have fans built into the units. This keeps the Supernova LED lights cool, and avoids entirely the need for ducting and air-cooled reflectors, which offers a tremendous cost savings to the the indoor gardener. The grower can use these funds to purchase hydroponics supplies and equipment for other areas of their gardening enterprise.

A Supernova LED grow light is a new innovation in indoor gardening lighting that will offer superb lighting for your plants while saving you money.

Susan Slobac uses LED grow lights for her gardens. She has rigorously tested the Supernova LED and reports her findings to other indoor growers.

Indoor Grow Lights Help Your Plants Flourish

All plants, because of their need for photosynthesis, require appropriate light in order to ensure their proper growth and maturation. Indoor gardeners use indoor grow lights to supply the illumination necessary. There are a wide variety of indoor grow lights available, including LED grow lights, HPS grow lights, and even discount grow lights. There are some differences among indoor grow lights, so it pays to do a little research before you invest in them.

    HPS Grow Lights

HPS grow lights, referencing high pressure sodium, are a type of HID, or high intensity discharge, light. Although a compact light bulb, they are capable of producing a lot of light, and thus their appeal to indoor gardeners. HPS lights give off light in the red to orange color spectrum, making it the lamp of choice for helping to coax your mature plants to bear fruit or flowers. HPS lamps need to be used in conjunction with a ballast, a piece of equipment that controls the flow of electricity to and through the lamp. The lamps are popular because they last a long time and are efficient to run.

    LED Grow Lights

Light-emitting diode, or LED, grow lights are wildly popular among indoor gardening enthusiasts, and for good reason. These indoor grow lights are tiny and thus extremely lightweight, making them easier to use in overhead situations in a greenhouse. They also do not generate heat, thereby needing less in terms of auxiliary equipment to keep the grow room at the appropriate temperature, and do not require ballasts. LED grow lights are very efficient to run, and will save money on electricity when compared with many other types of indoor grow lights. They also provide any color spectrum of light that you might wish to use with your plants.

Why do gardeners need indoor grow lights?

Plants need light for photosynthesis, and thus if you are growing plants indoors, you need to compensate for the lack of sunlight. What you are trying to do is recreate sunlight for your plants, and this is where grow lights come into play. Of course, grow lamps are not as bright as sunlight, so indoor gardeners typically leave the lights turned on the plants for a longer length of time than natural light might occur outdoors. Without appropriate light, plants will quickly die. If you are trying to start new plants from seed, the seedlings will become weak from trying to stretch up and reach what little light there is. Instead, the light should be ample and placed close above the seedlings to ensure sturdy stems and good growth.

Consider the types of plants you want to grow indoors, and where they are in their life cycle, in order to determine which grow lamps will be best suited to your needs.

How the Supernova LED Grow Light Has Changed Indoor Grow Lighting

All plants need three things to grow and thrive, and they are light, food and water. Light is extremely important, because without appropriate light, the plant will not be able to perform photosynthesis and will not be able to create chemical energy, otherwise known as food, which it uses for growth. With this in mind, bright light is crucial for indoor gardening at all levels, whether for an avid home gardener or a commercial greenhouse grower. Indoor gardeners are enthusiastic about the new grow light called the Supernova LED for many reasons.

The Supernova LED grow light will provide your plants with all of the light they need for excellent growth. Plants need more light from certain spectrums depending on their stage of growth. Plant grow lights come in different color temperatures, ranging from blues at one end of the spectrum and reds on the opposite end. Young plants need light in the blue spectrum for good growth, while mature plants that you want to produce fruit or flowers will thrive with light in the red and orange spectrum.

The Supernova LED is unique in that you can control the red and blue light color temperature spectrums independently. This means that you can have a light that produces more red spectrum when needed, and more blue spectrum as you choose, and all from the same lighting unit. The grow light also offers six custom enhanced spectrums of LED light. This is unique in the world of LED grow lights.

The Supernova LED grow light is also highly cost efficient. The Supernova LED, which are 270-watt LED grow lights, run on a fraction of the electricity needed to run 1,000-watt high intensity discharge grow lamps. The amazing Supernova LED, however, produces three times the brightness of ordinary LED lights. This is a powerful phenomenon that results in luxuriant growth in plants grown with these types of LED grow lights.

Another convenient aspect of the Supernova LED grow light is the wide coverage this grow light can achieve. Plants in a five foot square growing space will receive ample light from the Supernova LED. Seven circuit boards within these lights offer the capability of light projection at several different angles to achieve this result.

Many gardeners find that ordinary grow lights tend to run hot. This means you have to purchase products to cool them so that they do not overheat. This is not the case with the Supernova LED grow light. The Supernova LED comes with built-in fans, keeping the unit cool while at the same time saving you the ordinary expense of air-cooled reflectors and ducting.

For better plant growth, cost effectiveness and ease of use, the Supernova LED grow light offers it all to the indoor gardener.

After growing indoors using hydroponics for a lifetime, Susan Slobac recognizes the effectiveness of the Supernova LED grow light for its high lumens light output and adjustable light spectrum.
