It’s the third week in April and Landscape Designer Judy Timpa is preparing for planting season. Timpa nurses new plants inside her house and puts them under grow lights so that they will be mature enough to be planted in the Earth in May. This is a photograph of an extra bedroom in Timpa’s house, where she keeps the majority of her plants.

Some of these basil plants I got from Stop & Shop, and others from Concord. Growing in the den opposite the computer/TV situation.

Led Grow Lights – The ONLY Led Grow Light Review Worth Reading

Lets get this part out of the way because there will ALWAYS be those who swear by hps, cmh and mh lighting ABOVE AND BEYOND any and all led grow lights out there. This is due to their inability to change as well as being a bit outdated with the recent advancement that led grow lights have undertaken.

Can Led Grow Lights Out Yield Hps Lights?

On average a grower is capable of producing .50 to .75 gpw using an hps growing system which is of course respectable numbers wise BUT many forget the added costs associated with hps grow lights in general (electricity, replacement bulbs, a/c, ducting, temps in general). A few years ago when the led lights were first introduced to the growing community they were shunned FULL FORCE and still to this day that resentment continues BUT is very biased by those who are unfamiliar WITH led grow light technology.

HOW CAN CHRISTMAS TREE LIGHTS GROW PLANTS?

What if I were to tell you that it is possible to easily achieve 1gpw OR MORE by using a simple led grow light panel. Would you believe me? Odds are you won’t but let me continue before you let many misconceptions stop you from making one of THE BEST investments that you will EVER make in your growing career.

My Honest Opinion And Led Grow Light Review Results

I have personally seen and documented over 250 various led grows over the passed couple years. I personally am a medical card holder and those who I have documented are as well (for those who need to know). While the hps grower in general can yield more there is a huge cost difference between the two grow styles that really start looking apples to oranges especially over the course of a year.

The Costs Of Running A Led Grow Light Is About 90% Less Than HPS

Let’s assume you can do 1gpw with your hps system BUT let me remind you that one of the new led growing lights can produce up to (if not more than) 1.8gpw. Assume that both the hps and led produced 1gpw, what do you think the costs would be to run a high powered hps light with all of the accessories, possible a/c, ducting, heating ups and downs, bulb replacements (many are $90+ each).

Anything Producing 1+GPW Is Something Worth Testing At Least Once

The led grow light system runs extremely cool, doesn’t need a/c, ducting, replacement bulbs (many led panels last 10+ years) and how can you forget the costs to power those VERY BRIGHT yet VERY EFFICIENT led lights. Do you really think a 600w led grow light would cost ANYWHERE NEAR what a 600w hps grow light would cost?

HPS Spectrums Are Wrong For Plants And Is Why They Need So Many Lumens To Compare To Leds

Many people also get confused by the lumen power with the led light lumen output compared to hps systems. What these simple yet powerful led panels have are practically 100% efficient light that the plants NEED and NOT 90%+ of spectrums they don’t need which happens to be what hps grow lights provide and why they MUST crank out 60,000+ lumens to be effective.

If You Can Yield Better With Leds AND Save On Electricity Why Wouldn’t You Use Them?

If you haven’t tried out a side by side comparison than I suggest you do so BEFORE you burn your house down with those hot hps lights. Imagine being able to NOT have to replace those hps bulbs every 6 months or sometimes sooner due to them burning out (common with digital ballasts).

Take a look at a few led reviews online and do some research, if you are lazy than check the author box below for a link showing the top rated led grow lights on the market today.

Hydroponics Gardening With LED Grow Lights

It’s a well known fact that hydroponics gardening requires grow lights. Choosing a powerful grow lamp to light the plants properly in order for photosynthesis to occur and for the plants to grow and thrive is the key to success. Lighting is crucial to every kind of indoor gardening situation, because without adequate light, the plants will be stunted and not grow to their full potential. LED grow lights can be used to good effect in an indoor plant growing situation.

LED refers to light-emitting diode. A diode has two terminals, and it allows current to flow in one direction and not in another. It is a simple semiconductor.

Photons are units of light. Atoms contain photons, and it is the photons that produce light. They produce light when electrons move around and change positions. Electrical current, in an LED lamp, flows across the diode, and when this happens, it causes a change in the movement of the electrons. The positively-charged electrons will move in the opposite direction from the negatively-charged electrons. A semiconductor is made more conductive to electrical flow when free electrons are added to the conductor material, creating negatively charged areas, or when they are taken away, leaving gaps in the chain, and positively charged areas. Electrical current flows over these areas, and it causes the electrons to move. The side effect of all this movement is the production of light.

The color of the light emitted by these types of grow lamps is based on the size of the gap in the electron chain. The gap size affects the frequency of the photon, and this is why it has an impact on the color of the light produced. Low-frequency light produced by an LED light is used to light remote controls for one of many common examples, because it it infrared light.

If you are growing plants indoors, then the color of the light that your grow light emits is quite vital to your plants’ health. Young plants at the seedling stage require blue light in order to grow properly. Mature plants, such as a flowering or fruiting plants, require red and orange light in order to get the plants to produce the flowers and fruit that you want. All of this is dependent on the light that you use with your plants. LED lamps come in a wide variety of colors, so it is easy to get the exact grow lamps you need in order to get the results you want from your indoor plants.

The advantage to using LED lights is that they do not get hot as they are in operation, and they also do not have a filament, which you find in incandescent light bulbs, so they often have a longer productive life because of this.

Susan Slobac uses LED lights for hydroponics gardening. She has had great success with this type of grow lamp and in this article she shares her experience using the led grow light for indoor gardening.
