Hydroponics Update1 – Growing Seedlings in Rockwool NFT

Hydroponics Update1 A brief update on how the hydroponics project is going. I explain how I have been starting and growing Seedlings in Rockwool. The small seedling plugs slot directly into the larger rockwool blocks once they have sprouted. The purpose-made hydroponic rockwool blocks are quite expensive to buy – I only brought them this time around to make sure it works – next time I will buy a bale of rockwool from a DIY store and make my own. I’m always happy to hear feedback, suggestions, and constructive criticism to help me improve cheers Rick. . #43 – Top Rated (Today) – Howto & Style

Get A Head Start In The Garden By Growing Plants Under Grow Lights

In lean times, people have looked to ways to provide for their families, and one of those ways was through growing some of their own food. The “Victory Garden” came into being during World War II and times of food rationing. Today many people are looking for easy ways to grow delicious fruits, vegetables and herbs, and this can be done through indoor gardening.

There are gardening methods, such as hydroponics, which require no soil at all in order to grow wonderful foods, as well as aeroponics, which allows plants to grow in the air. With any of these indoor gardening systems, you will need appropriate grow lights in order for the plants to grow and thrive. Plants need light in order to perform photosynthesis, whereby the plant converts light to energy for itself.

This energy is what causes the plant to grow, mature and reproduce. The key to good photosynthesis in indoor gardening situations is having ample grow lights available to all plants. Without grow bulbs, growing plants will struggle to reach the little light available, and will grow spindly and weak stems, if they grow at all. There are many different types of grow lights available, and what you will use depends on the kinds of plants you are growing, in which stage of growth they are, and your budget. Young seedlings require grow lights that are in the blue temperature range, which helps the little plants to grow. Mature plants that you wish to flower and set fruit require grow bulbs in the red and orange light spectrum. You also need very bright light for indoor gardening, because you are trying to imitate natural sunlight. Many gardeners choose LED grow lights for indoor growing. LED grow lights are easily suited to any color spectrum you need. These powerful grow lights also produce much less heat than standard grow bulbs, eliminating the need for fans and cooling systems.

LED grow lights also consume less electricity than non-LED grow lights do, saving you money over time in energy costs. LED grow lights are also much lighter in weight than standard lighting fixtures, which makes them easier to hang over your plants, and they do not require extra equipment such as ballasts in order to operate properly. You can learn more about LED grow Lights, other types of indoor gardening lights such as HID lamps, metal halide lamps, high pressure sodium bulbs and all other types of lighting equipment including digital ballasts, light movers, reflectors and hangers suitable for indoor gardening by looking for information online.

From years of indoor and hydroponic gardening, Susan Slobac has developed an in-depth knowledge of LED grow Lights and writes frequently on the subject.

What are the best nutrients for an aeroponic system?

We have this high school project as a class and it’s about the Aeroponics System. It’s a system that sprays the roots that aren’t in soil technically. Kind of like that one prepaid advertisement for the "Miracle Grow". We’re making one like that too, but in this plastic container. We’re in a bunch of groups and we all have a specific job: lighting, spray system, nutrients (us), pumping system, container, etc. I found out that there were nutrients in a liquid form and you have to mix it in the water(?) So is that the best way to give the plant’s roots nutrients? We have a class competition between us and the other two periods. It seems the best way to grow plants or veggies is by mixing the mixture with the water and have be sprayed in mist on the green life. If anyone has a better idea, then let me know! I’ll give more info later! Thanks again, ha, it’s my birthday! I’m excited! LOL : )

Information about aquaponic gardening?

I was wanting to do some indoor gardening, and was looking into setting up a hydroponics system but i didn’t like the idea of buying all sorts of chemicals to feed my plants. So did some research and came upon aquoponics as an alternative to hydroponics with chemicals. Are the fish really able to produce enough nutrients to sustain a good amount of plants? Is a productive aquaponic system feasible in a relatively small amount of space? What are the best, least expensive, and edible fish for the system? Any ideas on how to make the system look decent, i like things to be neat and pretty as much as possible? Are strawberries a good thing to start out with?
Thanks for your help!

Hydroponics without the need to buy nutrients?

My questions is about the nutrients that are used for hydroponics. I’m an industrial designer and I’m thinking of making some sort of fish tank/hydroponic garden type of thing but I want to eliminate the hassle of buying nutrients for the water, plus the nutrients would probably kill the fish. So I was thinking maybe the plants can grow using nutrients from sediment in the tank, fish poop, and all the left over fish food. Can this work? Is it possible for plants to grow from this?
